Jackie Valin is Headteacher at Southfields Academy.
She has 40 years of experience in education and has a proven track record of driving up standards and inspiring aspiration in young people by championing continuous improvement - especially in some of London’s most challenging schools.
Jackie was appointed Headteacher of Southfields Community College in 1998, which at the time had serious weaknesses. Jackie and her team focused on teaching and learning, thus raising standards. Subsequently, in 2007 the school was graded Outstanding by Ofsted and Jackie was recognised as a National Leader of Education (NLE) by the National College.
Since then she has supported schools across England and was invited to become a London Challenge Leadership Consultant. In January 2008 she was asked as an NLE to support a local school which was given a Notice to Improve. Also in 2008 she was invited to work with the NC Headteacher Consultancy Group and is now a regular presenter to schools and Local Authorities on school improvement.
Jackie has always put Southfields at the heart of the community and strongly believes in the ethos of 'cradle to grave’ lifelong learning. As a result of this she developed ‘aspire@southfields’ - the community arm of the school. She chairs the Southfields cluster of 10 primary schools and was re-designated as Principal to reflect this wider role.
In July 2011, Jackie was delighted to have been named with her partner school Belleville Primary as one of the first 100 National Teaching Schools, and in 2012 Southfields gained Academy status and have recently applied to become a MAT.
