Karen Giles

Karen Giles serves as Headteacher for Barham Primary School in Wembley, a position she has held for 13 years, where the strapline is 'Striving for Excellence'.

Barham is multi-faith, multicultural and multilingual. Eighty-five percent of pupils speak English as an additional language. Karen has taught and led in London schools for twenty-eight years. She is also a Local Authority School Effectiveness Lead Professional, working with leaders in sixteen schools.

Karen has been a Leadership Coach for the Future Leaders Trust since 2012, a role which includes leading and facilitating a variety of mixed phase coaching groups and workshops. Karen has worked with both primary and secondary participants through Foundations and beyond to Headship, Vice Principal and Deputy Headteacher positions. She is now privileged to host two Future Leaders at her school. Her school is also hosting and delivering the Future Leaders NPQSL programme from Autumn 2016. She served as an Ofsted inspector from 2010-15. Karen has previously facilitated many National College Leadership programmes and training for Headteachers and aspiring leaders. She has been appointed as a Coach for the pan-London GLA Getting Ahead programme and serves on the Varkey Foundation Board of Trustees. She was the winner of the London Region National Teacher Award for Enterprise and Innovation in 2009.
