On 22nd Nov - with the kind of permission of the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon John Bercow - London Leadership Strategy hosted headteachers, MPs, policy-makers and school leaders at a reception in Speaker’s House, Palace of Westminster to celebrate the work of inspiring Headteachers.
Speakers at the event included Rt Hon Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for Education; Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Standards; Anita Kerwin-Nye, Managing Director of London Leadership Strategy; David Woods CBE, Chair of London Leadership Strategy; Rachel Macfarlane, Headteacher at Isaac Newton Academy and Programme Lead for London Leadership Strategy’s Going for Great Programme; and Sir David Carter, National Schools Commissioner. The speakers paid tribute to the work of inspiring Headteachers, both in the room and across the country. As Managing Director Anita Kerwin-Nye stated: “I couldn’t be more proud of the teachers in this room and the hands our children are in.”
As well as celebrating school leaders, the evening launched a new book entitled “Inspiring Greatness” - a collection of case studies from eight primary schools that showcases individual areas of excellence in schools. Each school featured was a participant of LLS’s 2015/16 Going for Great programme, which has been created for schools that are Ofsted rated “Outstanding” to support them on their journey to becoming world class, whilst also encouraging them to help the schools around them.Anita
Kerwin-Nye, Managing Director of LLS, commented: "The Minister for School Standards asked me what makes the schools in the room world class. I answered as you'd expect. Brilliant pupil progress. Great results. High flying destinations. All true. But the real test of world class is that they are also inclusive and - even in the era of league tables and competition - generous in sharing their resources to benefit all pupils, not just those in their own schools. Every leader in the room is committed to
continuing to grow, to learn and to build a better system for all children and young people".
